MINNEAPOLIS, MN – April 4, 2016 - Ethan Ishaug of Barnesville High School has been selected by the Minnesota Chapter of the Football National Football Foundation as one of this year’s Scholar Athletes. The eight winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 9th Annual Minnesota Football Honors event April 17 at the Hilton Minneapolis.

A quarterback and strong safety, Ishaug started three years on offense and four on defense and went 33-10 in those starts. The two-time team captain and MVP led the Trojans to three section championship games. Ishaug was a three-time all-conference and all-section honoree. He threw for 1,840 yards, 20 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Ishaug added 16 receptions for 368 yards and scored 14 rushing touchdowns. On defense he notched 60 solo tackles and 171 assisted tackles. He is also a basketball and baseball player for Barnesville, captaining each team twice.

Academically, Ishaug is at the top of his class. He has earned student of the month recognition multiple times, and was an academic all-state selection for football last fall. The National Honor Society member plans to attend the University of Mary and study physical therapy.

Ishaug serves as president of the Barnesville High School Philanthropy and Youth (PAY) program, which gives grants to non-profit organizations. Some of his numerous volunteer experiences have included feeding the homeless, collecting food for the food shelf and making blankets for a crisis center. Ethan’s parents are Thomas and Candace.

The 9th Annual Minnesota Football Honors event is presented by the Minnesota Vikings. College and professional football Hall of Fame inductees are scheduled to attend, and WCCO-TV news personality Frank Vascellaro will return for his ninth year as Master of Ceremonies. The event is open to the public. To register or for additional information about this year’s Minnesota Football Honors, please visit www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
