FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – March 30, 2022 – Sartell High School’s Steven Brinkerhoff has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Brinkerhoff, a native of Sartell, Minnesota, is one of eight scholar-athletes who will be recognized during this summer’s Minnesota Football Honors show.

“Steve’s academic success immediately jumps out. He challenged himself with rigorous courses and put together some very impressive academic accomplishments,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “Steve also made his mark in the community and on the football field. We look forward to honoring him during the Minnesota Football Honors show.”

Steven Brinkerhoff was an instinctive and aggressive linebacker for Sartell’s program. This season, Brinkerhoff led the team in tackles and made all of the defensive calls and checks. His accomplishments on the field earned him All-District and Section honors, along with the team’s MVP award. Brinkerhoff not only played a key role at linebacker, but shifted around to other positions when the program was short-handed.

“Steve is a person of impeccable character. His personality and positive attitude makes every team he’s on, or every classroom he’s in, that much better for everyone else,” said Sartell coach Scott Hentges. “Steve has shown great work ethic, determination and grit as he has matured as a football player.”

His accomplishments on the field are only part of the story though. Brinkerhoff posted a 4.31 weighted GPA while taking difficult advanced placement courses. He also earned AP Scholar of Distinction and Honors Scholar awards for achieving academic success at the highest level. Additionally, in the community, Brinkerhoff made a difference by volunteering at church, participating in the youth mentor program and assisting with youth sports.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show later this summer to honor its high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Full broadcast details will be announced in the coming weeks on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
