MINNEAPOLIS, MN - March 16, 2018 -  The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation is pleased to announce Edina High School student Nick Bloom as a 2018 Scholar Athlete. Bloom and the other winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 11th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on April 29 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

“Nick is a leader on and off the field in everything he does,” Hornets coach Derrin Lamker said. “His leadership makes him an individual that all student-athletes want to be around.”

Bloom was named to the AP All-State Team, Minnesota Coaches All-Star Team and All-District Team as a senior. The middle linebacker and running back served as the Hornets’ captain as they advanced to the state quarterfinals. A three-year starter, Bloom led his team in tackles during each of those seasons. Bloom is also a High School All-American rugby player who has twice captained Edina’s team and was named MVP last season. He was selected to play at the World Rugby 7s Tournament.

Bloom is also an academic standout at Edina with a high GPA. He is an honor roll student and has participated in choir and the DECA state tournament. Bloom plans to study economics at the University of California.

Community involvement for Bloom has included volunteering with Edina’s grade school reading program, Special Olympics, the Minnesota House of Representatives and more. He has given back to Edina’s youth football program by volunteering with the younger kids throughout high school.
