CLEVELAND’S CARTER KOPET NAMED A SCHOLAR ATHLETE

Kopet and the other winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 11th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on April 29.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - March 15, 2018 -  The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation is pleased to announce Cleveland Public School student Carter Kopet as a 2018 Scholar Athlete. Kopet and the other winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 11th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on April 29 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

“Every day Carter Kopet demonstrates the dedication and desire needed to improve and to be his best,” Clippers coach Erik Hermanson said. “Carter is the type of leader who is always pushing himself and others to succeed and achieve beyond their perceived abilities. He is the standard by which all our future athletes and leaders in Cleveland will be judged.”

Kopet earned four all-district awards in quarterbacking Cleveland to as many consecutive district championships and a 41-7 record as a starter. He was a 2017 Mr. Football finalist and collected two all-state honors, as well as KNUJ Offensive Player of the Year recognition. Kopet set Minnesota career records for touchdown passes, yards and total touchdowns. He also plays basketball and baseball. Kopet will continue his football career at Gustavus Adolphus.

Ranking at the top of his class at Cleveland, Kopet is a National Honor Society member and has earned Academic All-District and Spotlight on Scholarship Awards each year. He plays trumpet in multiple band ensembles for his school. Kopet plans to major in business/management.

Kopet has given many hours of his time to volunteer with youth sports camps, summer basketball league and the school booster club. He has also helped at church festivals and Adopt-a-Highway.

The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation will host the 11th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Presented by the Minnesota Vikings, it is the state’s largest football awards event. Doors open at 2 p.m. for the 4 p.m. event, which is open to the public. Tickets are on sale now.
