MINNEAPOLIS, MN - March 15, 2018 -  The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation is pleased to announce Minnetonka High School student Ty Barron as a 2018 Scholar Athlete. Barron and the other winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 11th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on April 29 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

“Ty is a leader in all aspects – in our weight room, in the classroom, in our hallways and on the field,” Skippers coach Dave Nelson said. “He has been the heart and soul of our defense the past two years. Ty exemplifies what this great award is all about! He is truly a great scholar athlete!”

Barron was named an AP All-State linebacker and a Mr. Football finalist after tallying more than 120 tackles. The All-Metro and two-time All-District honoree was also voted team captain and team MVP. Barron was a three-year starter for the Skippers, capping his career with a trip to the state championship game as a senior. He also plays lacrosse. Barron will continue his football career at the University of Minnesota.

Academically, Barron ranks in the top 10 percent of his class while taking AP and honors coursework. He has been on the A honor roll every semester and earned AP All-State recognition. Barron plans to study exercise science/kinesiology in college.
