MINNEAPOLIS, MN - March 14, 2018 -  The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation is pleased to announce Melrose Area School student Luke Glasener as a 2018 Scholar Athlete. Glasener and the other winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 11th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on April 29 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

“Luke Glasener is a great student-athlete,” Dutchmen co-head coach Chuck Noll said. “Luke demonstrates only the highest qualities we as coaches could ask from our athletes. Luke challenged himself to be the best all the time, and dedicated himself to his teammates and Dutchmen Football.”

Glasener was a three-year starter at safety who also played running back and receiver for the past two seasons. He handled long snapping duties for the Dutchmen all four years of high school. Glasener was All-Section 6AAA and All-District RED Division as a senior captain. He was the team’s leading tackler the past two years. Glasener is also an all-conference wrestler and baseball letterwinner. He will play football at Bethel University in the fall.

The MFCA named Glasener an All-State Academic honoree for his success in football and school. He is an honor roll student and a member of  National Honor Society. Glasener was the Boys State representative for Melrose last summer. He has participated in concert choir throughout high school. Glasener plans to study nursing in college.

Glasener has given back to athletics as a youth football volunteer coach and elementary wrestling coach for three years each. He is also active in church as a sound technician and slide show operator, as well as volunteering in the nursery. Glasener went on a mission trip to Jamaica, participated in a food shelf donation collection and helped with camp cleanup.
