Benilde-St. Margaret's Eric Wilson Named a Scholar Athlete

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - April 14, 2017 - The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation is pleased to announce Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School student Eric Wilson as a 2017 Scholar Athlete. Wilson and the other winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 10 Year Anniversary of the Minnesota Football Honors on Sunday, May 7 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Wilson received the Class 4A Most Valuable Teammate Award as he helped the Red Knights win the 2016 Prep Bowl. The AP and USA Today All-State honoree started on the line on both sides of the ball. Wilson earned Offensive MVP accolades in the MFCA’s High School All-Star Game after his senior year. The two-year team captain was selected as the Suburban Red District Defensive Lineman of the Year. He has also been a track captain. Wilson will continue his football career at Harvard.

Maintaining a 4.0 cumulative GPA, Wilson collected Academic All-State accolades as a senior. He is a National Merit Commended Scholar and has also received the St. Benilde Book Award, Student Recognition Award, Band Award, Spotlight on Scholarship and Parent Association Award. He is a member of Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, National Honor Society, band, choir and chess club. Wilson plans on a pre-medicine course of studies at Harvard.

Wilson volunteers his time with the Red Knight Volunteer Corps and church. His outreach efforts have included work with Hammer Residences, church volunteering and choir and Interfaith Outreach/Community Partners.

The 10 Year Anniversary of the Minnesota Football Honors will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017 at U.S. Bank Stadium. College and professional football Hall of Fame inductees are scheduled to attend to celebrate the best of Minnesota football. The largest football awards event in the state is presented by the Minnesota Vikings. The event is open to the public.
