Hastings' Jacob Brown Named a Scholar Athlete

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - April 14, 2017 - The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation is pleased to announce Hastings High School senior Jacob Brown as a 2017 Scholar Athlete. Brown and the other winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 10 Year Anniversary of the Minnesota Football Honors on Sunday, May 7 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Brown started at five different positions for the Raiders’ varsity squad since 10th grade, including tight end, outside linebacker and quarterback. The team captain earned All-District Honorable Mention and his team’s Raider Award for character. Brown was also a basketball and track captain.

In addition to earning Academic All-State honors in football and track, Brown is a National Merit Commended Student and an AP Scholar with Honor. The “A” honor roll student is at the top of his class and has been named Hastings’ Student of the Year in Anatomy, U.S. History, Civics and World Studies, as well as Rotary Student of the Month. He plans to study actuarial science in college.

Brown’s community involvement includes teaching Sunday school, coaching youth football and basketball camps, 4-H and more. He is also a peer helper and is involved in National Honor Society, Link Crew, Spanish Honor Society, Student Council, Future Farmers of America and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Brown took the lead in his school's annual American Red Cross blood drive.

The 10 Year Anniversary of the Minnesota Football Honors will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017 at U.S. Bank Stadium. College and professional football Hall of Fame inductees are scheduled to attend to celebrate the best of Minnesota football. The largest football awards event in the state is presented by the Minnesota Vikings. The event is open to the public.
