MINNEAPOLIS, MN – April 4, 2016 - Cory Dixon II of Patrick Henry High School has been selected by the Minnesota Chapter of the Football National Football Foundation as one of this year’s Scholar Athletes. The eight winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 9th Annual Minnesota Football Honors event April 17 at the Hilton Minneapolis.

Dixon started two years for the Patriots, playing linebacker and running back. He earned all-conference accolades last season after leading his team in both rushing and tackles. Dixon served as a captain for Patrick Henry and was named the team’s overall and defensive MVP as a senior. He will continue his football career this fall, as he has committed to play at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Dixon also plays basketball and baseball.

Dixon is committed to excellence in the classroom as well as on the football field. He is a member of National Honor Society. The honor roll student plans to study accounting and/or communications at UMD.

The Minnesota Vikings recognized Dixon last fall as a Community Captain for his work with St. Olaf Church and Impact Living Christian Center. He has also participated in the church band at Impact, and volunteered with Feed My Starving Children. Cory’s parents are Cory Sr. and Shante.

The 9th Annual Minnesota Football Honors event is presented by the Minnesota Vikings. College and professional football Hall of Fame inductees are scheduled to attend, and WCCO-TV news personality Frank Vascellaro will return for his ninth year as Master of Ceremonies.
