MINNEAPOLIS, MN – April 1, 2016 - Maple Grove Senior High’s Isaac Collins has been selected by the Minnesota Chapter of the Football National Football Foundation as one of this year’s Scholar Athletes. The eight winners, chosen for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement, will be recognized at the 9th Annual Minnesota Football Honors event April 17 at the Hilton Minneapolis.

Collins, a running back and safety, was a Mr. Football finalist as a senior. He was an AP and Minnesota Vikings All-State selection, as well a three-time all-conference and two-time all-metro honoree. Collins captained the Crimson and rarely left the field during a game. He accounted for 3,000-plus all-purpose yards as he rushed, caught passes and returned kicks and punts for Maple Grove. Collins set a school record with 37 career touchdowns, and accounted for more than 190 tackles on the other side of the ball. A multi-sport athlete, he has earned a scholarship to play baseball at Creighton.

Collins is as successful in the classroom as is he is on the gridiron. He is an A honor roll student who has earned recognition as student of the month.

Collins has logged 300-plus community service hours. He went on a 10-day service trip to Jamaica with classmates during spring break last year. They helped school children with homework, spent time at an orphanage and did landscaping and painting at a health clinic. Collins takes on leadership roles in many of his community and extracurricular activities, including providing instruction and examples to Maple Grove youth football players. Isaac’s parents are Michael and Betsy.

The 9th Annual Minnesota Football Honors event is presented by the Minnesota Vikings. College and professional football Hall of Fame inductees are scheduled to attend, and WCCO-TV news personality Frank Vascellaro will return for his ninth year as Master of Ceremonies. The event is open to the public. To register or for additional information about this year’s Minnesota Football Honors, please visit www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
