MINNEAPOLIS, MN - May 13, 2015 - The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation is pleased to announce that TCF Financial Corporation (TCF) joined the annual Minnesota Football Honors event as a Platinum Sponsor in 2015. A TCF representative last week presented the Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year Award, which is presented to a collegiate player who demonstrates outstanding performance on the football field. This year, the Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year is David Cobb, a running back for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Cobb was a primary reason Minnesota came within one game of a Big Ten Championship berth. He accounted for 58 percent of the Gophers’ rushing yards, 30.5 percent of their all-purpose yards and 21 percent of their scoring (second-most on the team after kicker Ryan Santoso). Cobb participated in the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine and was drafted by the Tennessee Titans.
TCF’s relationship with the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation is in its fourth year. As a premier sponsor of the annual event, TCF enables the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation to provide recognition and scholarships to standout leaders and football players in the state of Minnesota.
"TCF continues to be a strong partner with Minnesota Football Honors," said Sean Gothier, founder and president of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “Their partnership provides scholarships and shows strong commitment to student athletes across the state of Minnesota.”
“We are pleased to continue our support of athletics in Minnesota through the National Football Foundation and TCF Bank Stadium,” said Mark Jeter, managing director of retail banking at TCF Financial Corporation. “Honoring collegiate football players for their contributions in leadership, athletics, competition and sportsmanship, ensures we salute well-rounded leaders who are making positive contributions to our community. Congratulations to David Cobb who set an outstanding example as a Minnesota Gopher this year and who will continue his leadership as an NFL player.”
The eighth annual Minnesota Football Honors took place on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Hilton Minneapolis. College and professional football Hall of Fame inductees were in attendance at the premier Minnesota football awards event, and WCCO-TV news personality Frank Vascellaro returned for his eighth year as Master of Ceremonies. The event was open to the public, and was presented by the Minnesota Vikings. For additional information about the Minnesota Football Honors event, please visit www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
