MINNEAPOLIS, MN - March 25, 2014 - The Minnesota Chapter of The National Football Foundation is excited to announce the 2015 Fred Zamberletti Award winner, Roger Casey, to be recognized at the 8th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on May 3, 2015 at the Hilton Minneapolis. The Fred Zamberletti award recognizes outstanding efforts in athletic training and medicine.

Casey, a former head athletic trainer at the University of St. Thomas, spent 29 years with the school. He worked with a variety of different sports programs, including the perennial MIAC power UST football team.

While working for the Tommies, he helped student-athletes get healthy and stay healthy. At points of his career, he worked with all 20 UST teams and an array of coaching personalities. Throughout his time with the school, Casey was steady and consistent in his approach.

Casey used his role with UST to influence and mentor younger colleagues, as well as help dozens of students, many of whom went on to work in athletic training or in the healthcare field.

“Roger has been an absolute blessing as a supervisor and boss,” said fellow St. Thomas athletic trainer Kristin Stoneberg at the time of Casey’s retirement in 2014. “It takes an extremely caring and patient individual to care for the health of college athletes for almost 30 years. Roger was not only caring for athletes, but also mentoring 20-25 students every year interested in becoming health care professionals. But what I admire most about Roger was his ability to balance his work and family life, which in the athletic training world is the ultimate feat. I believe his happiness was a product of putting his family first and loving his work and athletes.”

The 8th Annual Minnesota Football Honors, presented by the Minnesota Vikings, will take place Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Hilton Minneapolis. College and professional football Hall of Fame inductees are scheduled to attend the event, and WCCO-TV news personality Frank Vascellaro will return for his eighth year as Master of Ceremonies. The event is open to the public. To register or for additional information about this years Minnesota Football Honors, please visit www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
