FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – July 19, 2022 – Longtime Moorhead High School and Concordia Cobbers play-by-play announcer Larry Knutson has been named this year’s recipient of the Sid Hartman Media Award by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Knutson will be recognized during this summer's Minnesota Football Honors show.
“Larry Knutson has made a substantial impact on the football scene in the Fargo–Moorhead region. If you ask football figures across our state, they will tell you that Larry’s voice is synonymous with Minnesota high school and college football,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “We are very excited to honor Larry during our Minnesota Football Honors broadcast.”
Larry Knutson’s voice paints a picture for fans who listen to high school and college games in the Moorhead area. Knutson, the play-by-play voice for Concordia College and Moorhead Spuds football, has announced games for more than four decades. The longtime broadcaster graduated from Ashby High School in 1966 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He also studied radio broadcasting at Thief River Falls Technical College.
Knutson began calling Concordia-Moorhead games in 1983 and is the longest running play-by-play announcer in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). In 2008, the MIAC sports information directors honored Larry with the Mike Augustin Award for his outstanding contributions to MIAC athletics. Knutson was also inducted into the Minnesota Football Coaches Hall of Fame, Minnesota Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, Moorhead High School Hall of Honor and Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame.
Larry remembers many moments from his long career, but none of them top the experience he had while covering Moorhead’s State Football Championship vs. Winona at the Metrodome. Knutson treasures each of those special moments and is thankful for all of the people he has worked with along the way.
The Sid Hartman Media Award honors the late Sid Hartman, a Twin Cities media legend for more than 75 years.
Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
