FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – June 2, 2022 –  Stillwater High School’s Mason Wilson has been named a Stacy Robinson Leadership Award winner by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Wilson, an Oakdale, Minnesota, native, is one of two student-athletes who will receive this award during the upcoming Minnesota Football Honors show.

“We look forward to honoring all of Mason’s outstanding achievements in every area of his life,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “His leadership on the field, in the classroom and in the community embodies everything that this award is all about.”

Mason Wilson, a starting defensive end and tight end for Stillwater’s program, earned All-District and District Defensive Lineman of the Year honors in 2021. Wilson was named a team captain and became one of the school’s most impactful leaders. He frequently led classroom discussions, asked insightful questions and encouraged active participation from his classmates. Wilson invested in his academic coursework and positively contributed to the school’s culture.

“Mason's critical thinking skills, thoughtful questions, ability to discuss with classmates and the teacher, and communication of reflective ideas are excellent,” said Stillwater head football coach and social studies teacher Beau LaBore. “His demeanor and maturity have had a positive impact on our class, particularly during political discourse conversations. Mason makes classrooms and classmates better.”

During high school, Wilson’s leadership also extended into the Stillwater community. He made a difference by volunteering at youth sporting events, assisting with Tackle Cancer fundraisers and playing bingo at the local nursing home.

The Stacy Robinson Leadership Award honors the late Stacy Robinson, a St. Paul Central graduate who left a strong legacy of community leadership and excellence in athletics. Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show later this summer to honor its high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Full broadcast details will be announced in the coming weeks on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
