MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – March 31, 2022 –  Lanesboro High School’s Seth Semmen has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Semmen, a native of Lanesboro, Minnesota, is one of eight scholar-athletes who will be recognized during this summer’s Minnesota Football Honors show. 

“Seth battled through injuries to achieve success on the field. He remained dedicated, set a goal and achieved it,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “He applied this same level of dedication to every area of his life and accomplished outstanding things. We look forward to honoring him during the Minnesota Football Honors show.” 

Seth Semmen, an All-District selection, led Lanesboro to a combined 17-2 record during his junior and senior seasons. Semmen played quarterback and was also named to the 9-Man All-State football team as a safety. All of Seth’s athletic success did not come without some adversity, though. Semmen battled through several knee injuries that put his career in jeopardy. However, he battled back and realized his goal of playing football again. 

“Undoubtedly, there were times when he thought high school sports were not going to be in his cards, but he was not deterred. Seth has always had a growth mindset and set a goal that he was going to play sports as a sophomore,” said Lanesboro coach James Semmen. “After two ACL repairs, countless hours of rehab, numerous hour-long rides back and forth to Rochester for physical therapy and two fully-lost seasons of high school sports, Seth was ready to play football.” 

Semmen applied the same level of dedication to other areas of his life. He volunteered at the blood drive and assisted with flood cleanup and the Multiple Sclerosis Tram team. Academically, Semmen accumulated a 3.982 GPA and became a Knowledge Bowl and Math Wizard Champion.
