FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – April 28, 2021 –  Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim has been named the Division I Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

This award is presented annually to the top Division I college football player in Minnesota. Ibrahim will be recognized during a television broadcast in the first part of May.

“Mohamed Ibrahim is one of the best running backs in college football. Each week, it was fun to watch his punishing running style and playmaking ability,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “We are looking forward to honoring Mohamed for his fantastic season.”

This year, Gophers running back Mohamed Ibrahim continued to break records. Ibrahim carried the ball 201 times for 1,076 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2020. He tallied the nation’s sixth-most rushing touchdowns and ranked No. 11 in total rushing yardage. While doing that, Ibrahim posted the seventh-best rushing efficiency metric in the nation.

Ibrahim was named the 2020 Big Ten Running Back of the Year and set Minnesota’s school record for rushing yardage per game (153.7). Additionally, he tied the Gophers’ program record for consecutive 200-yard rushing performances (two - 207 yards at Maryland and 224 yards at Illinois). Ibrahim scored eight total touchdowns over a two-game span, which is also a school record. The Gophers’ star running back has played in just 28 career games but already ranks ninth on Minnesota’s all-time rushing list (2,840 yards).

After his outstanding 2020 season, Ibrahim was recognized as an All-Big Ten First Team and Associated Press Third-Team All-America selection.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Special guests will be featured, including Vikings players. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
