FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – April 27, 2021 –  Minneapolis South High School’s Demetrius Seay has been named a Stacy Robinson Leadership Award winner by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Seay, a Minneapolis native, is one of two student-athletes who will receive this honor during an upcoming television broadcast.

“We are so excited to honor Demetrius for all of his accomplishments,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “The growth he displayed over his high school career illustrates the difference football can make in the lives of others. He epitomizes everything that the late Stacy Robinson stood for.”

Demetrius Seay started his football career by playing junior varsity and varsity special teams. By the time he was a senior, Seay became a standout running back and defensive end for the Minneapolis South Tigers. His outstanding play on the field earned him All-District honors. Seay overcame and conquered numerous challenges to reach that milestone. His coaches and teachers witnessed all of the growth he made as a person, player, leader and athlete.

“He showed the younger players how to practice hard, how to accept responsibility, how to reject passivity and how to remain humble,” said Minneapolis South head coach Rodney Lossow. “With COVID-19, community opportunities were few but the football family and community at South High School will be talking about the transformation of Demetrius for years to come.”

Ahead of his senior season, Seay became a team captain and later earned a scholarship to play football at Waldorf University.

This award honors the late Stacy Robinson, a St. Paul Central graduate who left a strong legacy of community leadership and excellence in athletics.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Special guests will be featured, including Vikings players. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
