FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – April 26, 2021 –  Benilde-St Margaret’s Nick Marinaro has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Marinaro, a native of Wayzata, Minnesota, is one of eight scholar-athletes who will be recognized during an upcoming television broadcast.

“Nick was one of the best defensive players in his district,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “He also made a profound mark in the classroom and community through a variety of activities. We are excited to honor him as one of Minnesota football’s best scholar-athletes.”

Nick Marinaro was a disruptive defensive lineman in Benilde-St Margaret’s scheme. Marinaro posted 34 tackles and became a key leader for younger teammates. He earned the District’s Defensive Lineman of the Year Award and finished fourth in tackles for loss. On the other side of the ball, his run blocking paved the way for two of the most explosive running backs in the area.

“Nick Marinaro is an outstanding young man of unparalleled character and potential,” said Benilde-St Margaret’s head coach Jon Hanks. “His teammates admire his work ethic and his coaches appreciate that he is extremely coachable.”

Off the field, he landscaped for elderly members of his community and was a “Link Crew” leader. Marinaro was also named to the highest academic honor roll and became a member of the National Honor Society. Additionally, he served as a four-year member on the school’s student council.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Special guests will be featured, including Vikings players. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
