FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – April 23, 2021 – Elk River High School’s Ryan Wilson has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Wilson, a native of Elk River, Minnesota, is one of eight scholar-athletes who will be recognized during an upcoming television broadcast.
“Ryan was a key leader on his team and kept getting better over the course of his career,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “His accomplishments in the community and classroom are equally impressive. We are excited to honor him during this year’s show.”
Ryan Wilson was a star linebacker and running back for the Elk River Elks. The three-year starter earned All-District honors for his excellent play on the field. Wilson, a team captain, became one of Elk River’s most important leaders.
“Ryan is an extremely hard-working student-athlete and it has been my pleasure to coach him for the past four years,” said Elk River head coach Steve Hamilton. “Ryan has been one of the hardest working student-athletes in my 23 years as a head football coach.”
Wilson’s hard work extended into the classroom and community. He frequently volunteers with youth programs and is the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader. Ryan also posted a 4.011 GPA and was elected to the National Honor Society. His outstanding academic performance earned him the Spotlight in Academics Award and Elk River Football’s Academic Scholarship.
Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Special guests will be featured, including Vikings players. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
