FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – April 22, 2021 –  Monticello High School’s Sam Valor has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Valor, a native of Monticello, Minnesota, is one of eight scholar-athletes who will be recognized during an upcoming television broadcast.

“Sam has a wide range of outstanding accomplishments in every area of his life. He represents everything this award is all about,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “We are very excited for him to represent the football community in central Minnesota.”

Sam Valor was an electric running back for the Monticello Magic football program. He finished his senior season with 1,000 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Valor averaged 9.4 yards per carry, which was the state’s top mark for players with more than 100 attempts. In 2020, he earned the District’s Most Valuable Running Back Award. On the other side of the ball, he grabbed three interceptions while playing safety for the Magic. His excellent football accomplishments earned him first team All-District and second team Star Tribune All-Metro Defensive Back honors in 2020.

“Sam is the type of person that puts his own needs secondary to that of the people around him,” said Monticello head coach Jason Telecky. “He is a diligent, passionate, caring person who has consistently shown the kind of motivation and drive that make him a tremendous ambassador for our school and community.”

Valor challenged himself with a rigorous academic schedule and made a profound mark in the community. He coached youth sports, volunteered at Feed My Starving Children and assisted with a variety of local events.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Special guests will be featured, including Vikings players. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
