MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – April 19, 2021 –  St. Thomas Academy’s Garrison Solliday has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Solliday, a native of Eagan, Minnesota, is one of eight scholar-athletes who will be recognized during an upcoming television broadcast.

“Garrison is a well-rounded scholar-athlete who continues to make a difference on and off the football field,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “We are very excited to recognize him for his outstanding accomplishments. He is among the best Minnesota football has to offer.”

Garrison Solliday was a versatile player in St. Thomas Academy’s defense. As a three-year starter, he played along the defensive line and also aligned at linebacker. Solliday earned three-time All-District and two-time All-State and All-Metro honors. He was also twice named District Defensive Player of the Year. Solliday, a Mr. Football finalist, made his mark on the entire St. Thomas Academy football program.

“Garrison is quite simply the definition of a selfless leader,” said St. Thomas Academy defensive coordinator Jon Springer. “Whether it be in the classroom, the school, his church community, or on the football field, Garrison leads by example and sparks action in others.”

Garrison continues to impact his community by coaching youth sports, volunteering at his church and participating in Feed My Starving Children activities. Additionally, following the George Floyd events in Minneapolis, Solliday immediately organized three large food drives. After seeing the neighborhood’s need for food and basic necessities, he rallied others to help. His actions made a difference in the lives of many people in south Minneapolis.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Special guests will be featured, including Vikings players. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
