FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - April 19, 2021 - Murray County Central High School's Rylan Behnke has been named a Scholar-Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Behnke, a native of Slayton, Minnesota, is one of eight scholar-athletes who will be recognized during an upcoming television broadcast.

"Rylan has a very impressive list of academic, athletic and community accomplishments," said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. "He is a well-rounded scholar-athlete and we are very excited to have him represent the southwest region of Minnesota football."

Rylan Behnke was a star center and middle linebacker for Murray County Central High School's program. During his career, he earned two-time All-District and All-Academic District honors. Behnke was also twice named to "The Worthington Globe" All-Area First Team. While playing football, he won two district championships and participated in a pair of section championship games.

"Rylan is one of the kids that every coach wants on his team," said Murray County Central head coach Patrick Freeman. "If you sit down with him and have a conversation, you become immediately impressed with his professionalism and you can see how much he cares for others."

Behnke made a mark on his local community through a variety of activities. Most notably, he worked as a Sunday school teacher and youth sports volunteer. In the classroom, Behnke qualified for the Academic All-State team and was named to the Minnesota Honor Society.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year's high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. Special guests will be featured, including Vikings players. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
