FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – June 25, 2020 – Braham Area High School’s Luke Bendickson has been named a Scholar Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Bendickson, a Stanchfield, Minn. native, is one of nine scholar athletes who will be recognized during a July television broadcast.

Bendickson was a standout running back and linebacker for the Braham Bombers. In 2019, he earned the All-Conference MVP award for his outstanding performance. Bendickson, a team captain, was a two-time All-Conference selection and finished his career with 312 carries, 2,210 yards and 33 rushing touchdowns. He also hauled in 62 receptions for 725 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns.

“Luke distinguished himself by his personal hard work, but he also earned much respect for his demonstrated ability to foster growth in his younger teammates,” said Braham head coach Shawn Kuhnke. “At the high school level, it takes courage to lead and Luke possessed such courage.”

Academically, Bendickson challenged himself with a rigorous class schedule. He thrived in college level courses and continued to participate in jazz and college community bands. Bendickson accumulated a 4.101 GPA and qualified for the Academic All-State team. In the Braham area, he made a difference through extracurricular clubs and community projects. Bendickson actively assisted with church, community center and youth sports programs.

Bendickson lives 60 miles from Minneapolis and represents the central region of Minnesota.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. The broadcast is set to air in July. Special guests, including Vikings players, are scheduled to make appearances. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
