FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – June 23, 2020 – Hibbing High School’s Dominic Marchetti has been named a Scholar Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Marchetti, a Hibbing, Minn. native, is one of nine scholar-athletes who will be recognized during a July television broadcast.

Marchetti, a team captain, started at running back and linebacker for the Hibbing Bluejackets. He was a two-time All-District Team selection and qualified for the All-Section Team. Marchetti tallied a 3.894 GPA and is set to graduate this spring. He will earn both a high school diploma and two-year degree from his local community college. Marchetti’s outstanding academic performance was recognized by Phi Theta Kappa and the National Honor Society.

Marchetti is actively involved in his community through church and Eagle Scout projects. He also participated in National Youth Leadership Training and several other local philanthropic events. During high school, Marchetti accumulated more than 1,100 total community service hours. His involvement extended to school clubs, including track and field, choir, Knowledge Bowl and Hibbing High School’s Leadership Council.

“In the community, Dominic is one of the most active students I have seen. If there is something that needs to be done, Dominic is going to be there,” said Hibbing High School football coach Shaun Howard. “He will be a model citizen for many years to come.”

Marchetti lives 194 miles from Minneapolis and represents the northeast region of Minnesota.

Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. The broadcast is set to air in July. Special guests, including Vikings players, are scheduled to make appearances. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
