MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO RUNNING BACK NATE GUNN NAMED DIVISION II BOBBY BELL COLLEGE IMPACT PLAYER OF THE YEAR

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – March 5, 2020 –  Minnesota State Mankato running back Nate Gunn has been named the Division II Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. This award is presented annually to the top Division II college football player in Minnesota. Gunn will be recognized at the 13th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Sunday, April 26 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

“Nate Gunn epitomizes the word ‘impact’ with his ability to score touchdowns at a high level,” said Todd Fultz, President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. “We are proud to recognize both Nate and the very successful Minnesota State Mankato program with the Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year Award.”

Gunn ran through opposing defenses and set records during his senior season at Minnesota State Mankato. He posted 260 carries for 1,667 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2019. Gunn set the Mavericks’ single-season records for rushing touchdowns (31) and points scored (186). He was also named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Offensive Player of the Year for his historic 2019 campaign. 

Gunn earned First Team All-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Associated Press (AP), Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the Don Hansen Football Committee. The Mavericks’ running back was one of eight finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy (finished fifth in the voting), which is presented to the NCAA Division II College Player of the Year. 

Gunn’s record-setting 2019 season helped Minnesota State Mankato advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship game.

The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation will host the 13th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at U.S. Bank Stadium. The largest football awards show in Minnesota is presented by the Minnesota Vikings. Doors open at 2 p.m. for the 4 p.m. show.
