REEGAN NELSON NAMED A SCHOLAR ATHLETE

The Melrose senior will be recognized at the Minnesota Football Honors event on April 27.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - April 2, 2019 - Reegan Nelson of Melrose Area High School has been named a Scholar Athlete by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. He and the other honorees will be recognized at the 12th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Saturday, April 27 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Nelson earned all-district accolades the past two seasons and was named the district’s most valuable quarterback as a senior. He passed for 4,167 yards and 44 touchdowns during his career, including 2,010 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2018. Nelson also played defense, and punted and kicked off for the Dutchmen as they went 7-3 last season. Outside of football, he is an All-West Central Conference basketball and baseball player.

In the classroom, Nelson holds a No. 1 ranking with a 4.0 grade point average while taking advanced coursework. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to get a degree in elementary education.

While excelling on the field and in the classroom, Nelson led his football team on community service projects at a veterans recovery facility and packing food bags for local elementary students who do not get much to eat outside of school. He was involved in other service opportunities through National Honor Society, and has coached youth football and basketball for the past several years.

The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation will host the 12th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at U.S. Bank Stadium. The event is presented by the Minnesota Vikings and is the largest football awards event in Minnesota. Doors open at 2 p.m. for the 4 p.m. event.
