WILL GILLACH TO RECEIVE STEIN-FALLON AWARD

The Saint John's wide receiver will be recognized at the Minnesota Football Honors event April 27.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - March 28, 2019 - Will Gillach of Saint John’s University has been named the 2019 Stein-Fallon College Scholar Award recipient by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. He will be recognized at the 12th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Saturday, April 27 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

 

Earlier this year Gillach was selected to receive a $10,000 postgraduate scholarship from the NCAA. He was a semi-finalist for the National Football Foundation’s Campbell Trophy and earned Google Cloud Academic All-America recognition. Gillach is a biochemistry major with a pre-medicine emphasis and a 3.70 GPA. He has researched topics including the opioid epidemic, antibiotic resistance, and regenerative science. After graduation, he will begin the ESTEEM (Engineering, Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Excellence Masters) program at Notre Dame.

 

 

Gillach is a member of SJU’s Entrepreneur Scholars Program, in which he has traveled to meet with worldwide entrepreneurial leaders. He co-founded a market-research firm called 2 Johnnies Consulting, and also serves on the board of directors for non-profit foundation BonafideU. His community involvement has included a medical mission trip, mentoring children at a domestic abuse shelter, working in the dementia unit of a hospital, and more.

 

 

Gillach also excelled as a wide receiver for the Johnnies. The senior was a consensus All-American in 2018. The first SJU receiver in 11 years to reach 1,000 receiving yards, he ended the season with 1,282 yards on 72 catches. He notched a school-record 256 receiving yards against St. Thomas. Gillach’s 17 receiving touchdowns were fourth-most in Division III.

 

 

The Stein-Fallon College Scholar Award is named for Minnesota Gopher great Bob Stein and business leader Pat Fallon.

 

 

The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation will host the 12th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at U.S. Bank Stadium. The event is presented by the Minnesota Vikings and is the largest football awards event in Minnesota. Doors open at 2 p.m. for the 4 p.m. event.
