SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY’S JACKSON ERDMANN TO RECEIVE BOBBY BELL AWARD

The Saint John’s quarterback will be recognized at the 12th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Saturday, April 27 at US Bank Stadium.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - March 25, 2019 - Gagliardi Trophy winner Jackson Erdmann has been named the Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year Award by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation. The Saint John’s quarterback will be recognized at the 12th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Saturday, April 27 at US Bank Stadium.

Erdmann received the 2018 Gagliardi Trophy as Division III’s most outstanding player after a junior season in which he led the nation in passing efficiency (189.8), passing touchdowns (47) and points responsible for (290). He was also third in yards per pass attempt (10.03), fourth in passing yardage (3,450) and ninth in yards per completion (15.40).

A consensus first-team All-American, Erdmann was also named the D3football.com Offensive Player of the Year and the MIAC Most Valuable Player. He quarterbacked the Johnnies to the NCAA quarterfinals and a 12-1 overall record. Erdmann set single-game program records with 470 passing yards vs. St. Thomas and seven passing touchdowns vs. Thomas More. Despite playing only three full MIAC games he ranked second in conference play with 1,942 yards. He will begin his senior season second in SJU history in career passing touchdowns (92) and fourth in passing yards (6,599).

Erdmann is equally renowned for his off-the-field accomplishments and was chosen as a member of the Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team. His service projects have included a trip to Thailand to work with organizations fighting child sex trafficking, teaching an ESL class, leading a church youth group and more.

The Bobby Bell College Impact Player of the Year Award is named for the Gophers All-American and national champion who went on to star for the Kansas City Chiefs. Bell is a member of both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame.

The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation will host the 12th Annual Minnesota Football Honors on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at U.S. Bank Stadium. The event is presented by the Minnesota Vikings and is the largest football awards event in Minnesota. Doors open at 2 p.m. for the 4 p.m. event.
